Onyx Storm is the third installment in the Fourth Wing series. Highly anticipated and sought after, I couldn't wait to dig into it! Violet and Xaden are still dealing with aftermath of his new condition, and really...the first half of the book went very slow for me. There was an elaborate name-dropping of a lot of places and people that I had a hard time keeping track of. At one point, I got so confused, I stopped caring about anyone outside of the "core group".
The Andarna storyline broke my heart, but I feel it turned around for the better in the end. The connection between Violet and Xaden this go-round was awful. The amount of worrying about each other was borderline annoying, and nothing really happens between them that's new and interesting.
The traveling to all the isles seemed to drag on a bit for me, and I felt like some parts could have just been completely cut out. I get the purpose of some of it, but it all went on way too long, for almost no result. I did enjoy having Xaden's Mom as a character and would be curious to know more about her in the future. The last 100 pages or so is when the book really picked up for me. The ending was great. I just wish overall, it would have been a little more fleshed out.
