⭐⭐⭐⭐
Cassie and Zoe are sisters who have both shown musical talent at a young age. Cassie is shy and withdrawn, and Zoey is outgoing and exuberant. When Zoe convinces Cassie to join her in a "Battle of the Bands," Cassie is skeptical and terrified. But when Cassie takes the stage and wows everyone, including a record exec, the sisters are signed immediately as the Griffin Sisters. They're joined by Russell and a few other guys who make up their bands. The sisters are immediately drawn to Russell for different reasons. But, after a short time, tragedy strikes the band, and they break up. Fast forward 20 years later, and Cassie is hiding in Alaska while Zoe is raising her family. The sisters haven't spoken since the breakup of the band, but something needs to happen to get them back together.
Personally, the early aughts were my early teen years, so the baked-in nostalgia struck me with just the right chord. A love triangle, family drama, self-worth struggles, and so many more themes make this book more than just a book about finding fame. I was rooting for Cassie the whole time, and by the end I was rooting for both of the sisters. I wasn't sure what to expect out of this book-—it's not typical of Jennifer Weiner's usual fare. I thought it was well done, emotional, and poignant.
I just finished this & I really liked it too. I didn't love the way it ended but it was a good read.
